Travis Sylvester owner of Sylvester's Customs addicted to building and painting cars since the very beginning. From airbrushing motorcycle tanks and baseball helmets since age 10 to helping my dad Marty Sylvester in the shop build a 49 Willys from the ground up. As the passion for building cars grew so did the projects, model cars, baseball helmets, tractors, and much more until I could afford to start taking classes and furthering my skills.
Started out doing cars for customers as side work, I still had a normal job on night shift for the rail roads while building cars/trucks during the day. In order to be the best version of myself I could be I had to learn from people I admired. After taking classes on painting with Ryan Templeton, Scott Mackay, Corey Saintclair, Mickey Harris, Mike Lavalle, Charley Hutton and more my paint skills improved but I wanted more...
Various jobs after high school were working as a mold maker in a machine shop where I learned to tig weld and use manual lathe and milling machines. Then moved to work at Tatum Motorsports where I fabricated high end sand cars from chassis to paint. Fast forward taking metal shaping classes with Gene Winfield and metal finishing classes with Ken Sakamoto from Sun Chaser studios that was a turning point in my life where I felt like I was firing on all cylinders. At that point I hired Mike Coutts friend of 20 years and taught him everything I could. We then started the Youtube/Instagram channel and pushed forward on building/body working/painting cars for other clients. Mike and I creating content for others to learn from is important to us as we are in an industry that needs more skilled trades. We are trying to better this industry one video/one class/one car at a time and we hope that you join us in our journey to help others build their dream cars!
